![]() We started on Trail #9- out of Sylvan Lake parking area to climb Harney Peak. Once at the top the views of Cathedral Spires are quite good, but the rest of the view can be had at Black El Peak fire tower by climbing steps, not by climbing rock faces and rocky passages.įirst off, let me say- if you plan to climb both of these points be sure to allow a good 5-6 hours and bring PLENTY of water and snacks for energy. My wife and others, after climbing the first rocky passage were not comfortable climbing the rock face to get to the next two rocky passages. At LDT peak small children, the elderly and small dogs were not making the last stretch of the climb. I saw people of all ages and sizes doing Black Elk Peak Trail, same for Cathedral Spires. The last 200 feet or so before the overlook on the dogleg are challenging and involve more than scrambling over a few boulders. The LDT overlook itself is another story. Now my review for the dogleg that leads to the actual Little Devils Tower overlook. The LDT trail has one short steep uphill section and the rest of it is very pleasantly graded. The mainline LDT trail is an excellent choice to get to Black Elk Peak, Cathedral Spires and Little Devils Tower all at once. First my review of the mainline LDT trail that takes you to the Black Elk peak trail. ![]() Let me first say that i think the little devils trail needs to be viewed as two separate reviews. ![]()
